Security Guard Training Requirements for Beginners

Before starting your security guard training, it’s good to first understand the job description, mandatory tasks and skill requirements important to become a security guard.

The job description for a security guard varies according to the type of security you are applying for, but typically it lines up with this:

Guard, patrol, or monitor premises to stop theft, violence, or infractions of rules.

While on duty, a Security Guard must contact the police or fire departments in cases of emergency. Usually, a guard can not make an official arrest, which is the reason fast thinking and good communication skills are necessary when contacting the police or fire department.

A Security Guard may also be expected to have knowledge of specific equipment, guidelines, procedures, and strategies to encourage effective local, state or national security operations for the protection of individuals, data, property, and institutions.

As mentioned earlier, a Security Guard should have decent communication skills since they are doing the job with all diverse types of people of various ethnic backgrounds, beliefs and understandings. The Security Guard must demonstrate great principles and show adequate processes for supplying customer and personal services. The Security Guard must give help for customer needs, make assessments of scenarios, and above all - have a high quality of criteria for services that he/she provides.

Now, a Security Guard must have entire familiarity with laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process. These materials are imperative for a Security Guard to learn, because these rules and regulations are the basis for all proper procedures taken as the Security Guard.
